More schools across the state report hoax calls yesterday. As mentioned in earlier newscasts on Blair Radio, Fremont High School, Omaha’s South High School and Columbus Scotus were on short lockdowns during those hoax calls and subsequent reactions of police departments in those communities. Added to that list Lincoln Public Schools, Grand Island, Gering, Hastings, Kearney, Scottsbluff and others.
In some instances, the school officials determined that the calls were fake because the caller used a teacher and room number that did not exist in those school systems.
The Nebraska Sate Patrol says some of the calls used voice altering programs or fake accents. The State Patrol says that other states have experienced similar “swatting” calls.
