The most severe designation of drought for Nebraska has gotten smaller. The most recent U.S. Drought Monitor shows the maximum percentage of Nebraska in the D4 category is now at 1.31 percent, down from 6.20 percent in May. A large band in central eastern Nebraska is in the Extreme drought category. Here in Washington County, that exceptional drought designation is not present, the county is showing about 80 percent Severe drought, the remainder, in the northeast section of Washington County is in Moderate drought.
