CHECK FOR DRY CONDITIONS WHEN USING CHRISTMAS LIGHTS

Many of us have Christmas decorations already up, inside and outside the home. With the dry weather conditions, there is concern about Christmas lights, especially older lights that produce more heat, and possibly drying outdoor shrubs and plants even more and making a fire hazard.

You’re urged to check on the conditions of anything coming into contact with those hotter bulbs and turning them off if those materials seem to be warm.

Inside, if you have a cut tree, Blair Fire Chief Joe Leonard says to water the trees daily and also monitor for dry conditions. If using an artificial tree, check for flammable decorations that may be near hot lights.

As always, the fire chief encourages use of working smoke and CO detectors.
